Doc Wood's History
Dr. Arthur Eugene Wood (1924 - 2010) was a physician, patriot, and philanthropist. He graduated from Mississippi College with a degree in Chemistry in 1947 and from Tulane University School of Medicine with an M.D. in 1953. A lifelong learner and scholar, Dr. Wood also graduated from the Mississippi College School of Law and was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1964.
In the next fifty years, Dr. Wood practiced family medicine in rural Alabama and Mississippi. For many, he was the only doctor their families ever had. He not only made house calls but his home was well known as a place where you could stop in if his car was in the driveway. He was truly the epitome of a well-loved and compassionate family doctor.
Dr. Wood served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and later in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Major. He was honored by his alma mater, Mississippi College, as the Alumnus of the Year in 1993. He lived his life in service to God, his country, and his community.
